Greater Lansing Sports Authority

A public organization devoted to promoting Lansing area sports, the Greater Lansing Sports Authority (GLSA) brings quality athletic tournaments to Lansing facilities, and also supports the development of local sports.

Challenge

The GLSA’s goal was to establish a web presence that would attract national sporting events to Lansing while serving local needs. The organization wanted a fun, engaging, user-centered website to market Lansing as a premier sports venue and effectively showcase Lansing’s sports facilities and services. First and foremost, the website should offer tournament planners and event rights holders access to comprehensive information about Lansing’s sports venues. It would also be a forum to publicize Lansing sports news and events. Finally, the website had to be developed on a compressed timeline.

Solution:

Within the client’s short deadline, Artemis was able to deliver a dynamic web presence suited to a national audience. Professional design, graphics, and consistent branding and colors throughout gives the website an active, engaging look with a polished quality. The use of Flash animation on the home page highlights the GLSA’s central marketing message, reinforces the energetic sports theme, and draws in casual site visitors. Clear menus make information easy to find.

A customized search engine, the "Venue Finder," links event planners to detailed web pages about Lansing’s sports facilities. Using the "Venue Finder," site visitors can view contact information, location maps, field descriptions, lists of amenities, and supported sports for venues matching their search criteria.

Using a content management system developed by Artemis, the client can easily update the GLSA website—for example, with fresh news and calendar events—without the need for specialized programming knowledge.

Result:

Reaction from the GLSA has been enthusiastic. "After having looked at other cities and their sports event planning specific sites in our research process, we now consider our own truly best-of-class," says Brendan Dwyer, marketing communications manager. He was also appreciative of the Artemis team. "The web developers on the project were true, dedicated partners in this process. Their know-how, as well as friendly and approachable nature, made the project not only seamless from a development side, but truly fun and exciting to work on."
